How To Use Natural Wax 2 For Making Lotion.

Natural Wax 2 is a versatile emulsifier and thickener that provides a creamy, stable texture in lotions. Follow these steps to create a smooth and luxurious lotion.

Ingredients:

Here’s a sample lotion formula using Natural Wax 2:

Phase A (Water Phase):

• Distilled Water: 70.0%

• Glycerin (Humectant): 5.0%

• Aloe Vera Juice (Optional, for hydration): 5.0%

Phase B (Oil Phase):

• Natural Wax 2 (Cetearyl Alcohol and Glyceryl Laurate): 6.0%

• Sweet Almond Oil (or any carrier oil): 10.0%

• Shea Butter (Optional, for added richness): 2.0%

• Vitamin E Oil (Antioxidant): 0.5%

Phase C (Cool Down Phase):

• Preservative (e.g., Euxyl PE 9010): 1.0%

• Essential Oils (Optional, for fragrance): 0.5%

• pH Adjuster (if needed): To achieve pH 5.5 ± 0.5

Equipment Needed:

• Heat-resistant glass beakers

• Double boiler or water bath

• Digital thermometer

• Stick blender or immersion blender

• Stirring rod

• pH meter or pH strips

• Sanitized lotion containers

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Water Phase (Phase A)

1. Measure the distilled water, glycerin, and aloe vera juice into a clean, heat-resistant beaker.

2. Stir to combine.

3. Place the beaker in a water bath or double boiler and heat to 80-85°C.

Step 2: Prepare the Oil Phase (Phase B)

1. In another heat-resistant beaker, measure Natural Wax 2, the carrier oil, shea butter, and Vitamin E oil.

2. Place the beaker in the same water bath or double boiler and heat to 80-85°C, ensuring the Natural Wax 2 fully melts and combines with the oils.

Step 3: Combine the Phases

1. Once both the water and oil phases have reached 80-85°C, slowly pour the oil phase (Phase B) into the water phase (Phase A).

2. Begin blending immediately using a stick blender or immersion blender. Blend for 2-3 minutes to ensure proper emulsification.

Step 4: Cool and Stabilize

1. Remove the mixture from the heat and continue stirring gently as it cools.

2. When the lotion cools to around 40°C, add the preservative and essential oils (Phase C).

3. Stir thoroughly to incorporate.

Step 5: Adjust the pH

1. Use a pH meter or strips to check the pH of the lotion.

2. Adjust as needed to ensure the pH is between 5.0 and 5.5, which is ideal for skin and to ensure preservative efficacy. Use a citric acid solution to lower the pH or a sodium hydroxide solution to raise it.

Step 6: Packaging

1. Transfer the lotion into sanitized containers while it is still warm but not hot (around 30-40°C).

2. Seal the containers and label them with the formulation date and ingredients.

Notes and Tips:

1. Heat Sensitivity: Always heat the water and oil phases to 80-85°C to ensure Natural Wax 2 fully activates for proper emulsification.

2. Stability Testing: Test the lotion for stability by observing it over a few days to ensure no separation occurs.

3. Storage: Store the finished product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
